Nature Connection, Human Health, and Happiness

Visit the Vortex and Expand your Connection to Nature
There is not a lot of contemporary reflection on nature connection. So when I hear some in the wild, I get excited to share it! This month, I’m sharing a podcast from the Joe Rogan Experience featuring Zach Bush MD, a physician specializing in internal medicine, endocrinology, and hospice care. He is the founder of Seraphic Group and Farmer’s Footprint, a nonprofit dedicated to regenerative agriculture.

My Takeaways from Zach Bush on Nature Connection
Life is a concentration of light energy
Restore our relationship to nature
Become a keystone species again
Is Vortex Energy Light Energy?
Sure it is. Not on the visible spectrum. But certainly on a frequency spectrum. Light and sound are both waves that move energy. I recently heard a definition of energy vortex that I now use frequently, a high concentration of lifeforce energy. If life is light, as Zach says in the podcast, then is vortex energy also light energy? Let me know what you think in the comments.
Nature Connection in an Energy Vortex
A Sarasota Vortex Tour is really an exercise in nature connection. I take you through three scales of energy awareness. After the first practice, which is your own personal energy field or aura, the next two levels include nature as a willing participant in the work. This highlights the interdependence of humans and the natural world.
People ask, how do you know if you're in the vortex? I’ll teach you how to feel it through developing a relationship with nature. Thats all it is, building a relationship. Once you establish an open channel between your awareness and the aliveness of the natural world - you are in the vortex.
Nature Connection as Ancestral Medicine
When I hear the concept of ‘a relationship to nature,’ I think of the word ‘Kinship’ in the context of a family relationship to nature. I first learned about the concept in the book, Restoring the Kinship Worldview: Indigenous Voices Introduce 28 Precepts for Rebalancing Life on Planet Earth By Wahinkpe Topa (Four Arrows), Darcia Narváez, Darcia Narvaez PhD, et al. It’s about framing our relationship to things like rivers and trees as similar to aunts, uncles, and grandparents–your kin by blood! On a planetary scale, it’s more like kin by water.
I even heard a catholic priest identify that the Catholic faith (my cultural spiritual belief) have named Brother Sun and Sister Moon. That really opened my eyes to the universality of the concept of a close relationship with nature. Our species forgetting that closeness is what is making society so sick today.
Nature Connection for Human Evolution
One of the most eye opening comments Zach made in this podcast was about humans being a keystone species of the planet. Keystone plant or animal species are important because they are indicators of the complex food web of an entire region. One example in southwest Florida is the gopher tortoise. When the tootsie thrives, all other animals in the area thrive. So what animal signals the health of the planet…. Humans of course! And what does our baseline health say about the planet… we’re both in trouble.
That was a big driver for why I started Sarasota Vortex Tours, tightening our relationship to nature will improve our health and evolve our species. We can co-evolve with climate change. But we must expand our hearts more and take in the Earth as our Mother.
